Summary:
The Registered Nurse provides specialized nursing care in the hemodialysis unit! or the home department. In the absence of the Charge Nurse, the Registered Nurse coordinates the activities of the department staff and patients.

Responsibilities:
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

The Registered Nurse / RN provides nursing care according to clinic policies and procedures, including:

Thorough patient assessment and initiation.
Discontinuation of treatment.
Monitoring during treatment.
Assessment following treatment.
Completing primary nurse responsibilities.
Completing care plans.
Assuring ordered lab is obtaine.
Administers blood as ordered.
Assists non-licensed patient care staff in the care of dialysis patients.
Determines patient care priorities and organizes workload efficiently and effectively.
Assesses and monitors the patient access, taking appropriate action if a problem is noted and documents thoroughly.
Under! stands the basic concepts of water treatment and reuse and the! effects on patient care.
Administers medications to patient, educates the patient about medications ordered by the physician, and documents according to DCI policy.

BLOODBORNE PATHOGENS:
Since this is a healthcare environment, there is the possibility of exposure to infectious / contagious diseases, needle sticks and blood and body fluids. Further information about this position’s specific work environment and exposure category will be provided during orientation. This position is classified as Category I.

Qualifications:
Education and/or Experience:
Graduation from an accredited nursing program (BSN, AA, diploma).
Applicant must have strong leadership skills, excellent communication skills and a demonstrated high level of clinical excellence.
Previous dialysis experience preferred.
Must complete DCI’s comprehensive training/orientation program.
Must possess and maintain valid CPR certification. DCI offers a very competitive benefits program.
