General Job Summary

The Patient Care Technician provides for the delivery of patient care through the use of the nursing process collaboratively and under the direct supervision of a licensed nurse; communicates effectively with coworkers, patients, family and visitors; provides a safe environment for the patient; assists the patient to reach optimal functioning considering their individual capabilities; performs a! ll functions as delegated by the staff nurse; and keeps nursin! g personnel informed and adheres to the policies and procedures of Ochsner Health System.

Required Qualifications

Education / Certifications / Licensure / Specialized Training

High school graduate or equivalent.
Current Louisiana Certification as a Nurses’ Assistant (CNA).
Healthcare provider CPR certification.

Experience / Skills

Excellent planning, organizing and time management skills â€" ability to handle multiple tasks at once in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision.
Basic computer skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience / Skills / Competencies

Hospital and telemetry experience.

Essential Position Duties

1. Assists with plan of care as delegated by staff nurse within scope of practice.
2. Maintains a clean and safe environment in patient care areas.
3. Provides care based on physical, psycho/social, educational, safety and related criteria, a! ppropriate to the ages of patients served in assigned areas.
4. Completes documentation of patient related tasks.
5. Communicates patient care needs effectively with patients, families, and other staff members, including multi-disciplinary teams.
6. Maintains professional certifications and technical knowledge.
7. Adapts to rapidly changing situations based on department activity â€" census, patient acuity, etc..
