The Registered Nurse effectively maintains the Standards of Practice and Care utilizing the nursing process, provides nursing care based on recognized ! professional and legal standards of practice and promotes collaboration with physicians and other disciplines. The Medical Imaging Nurse is a registered nurse who is responsible for assuring competent, compassionate nursing care for specific patients and families. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, pre-procedural assessment and preparation, including starting IV’s, hemodynamic monitoring during diagnostic and interventional procedures, and post-procedural recovery and teaching. The staff nurse is responsible and accountable for the overall nursing care management of all Medical Imaging patients. Provides competent, compassionate nursing care based on scientific principles and the use of nursing process and a primary nursing model. Major Duties: Meets organizational expectations as defined by the Employee Standards of Performance, hospital and department policies and procedures, and the hospital’s strategic goals. Verbalizes a clear understanding of contin! uous quality improvement and customer satisfaction measures an! d actively participates in improvement initiatives. Assesses/reassesses patient’s condition based upon observation of patient and interview of patient and/or family, physician’s diagnosis and data, diagnostic results, and relevant data from other healthcare providers. Documents all aspects of patient care and maintains patient records, in a timely manner. Provides patients and family members with relevant healthcare education and instructions regarding treatments and procedures in including pre/post hospital care as appropriate. Delegates responsibility to appropriate personnel, as well as, accepts delegated responsibility for function such as, but not limited to, charge nurse for unit activities on assigned shift. Assists in the orientation and training of new and tenured personnel, reassigned nurses, student nurses, patient care assistants, and faculty; serves as a preceptor when requested and submits appropriate documentation in a timely manner. Responds to internal/! external disaster as directed. Accountable for nursing practice to the Chief Nursing Officer or designee in the facility in which practice takes place. Consistently provides for the continuum of care through communication with all discipline. Performs routine assessments to ensure equipment is well maintained, operating in a safe work environment. Provides appropriate clinical information about the patient to the radiologist. Ensures that studies are being sent upon completion from modalities to the archive and to reading stations. Updates the Imaging Supervisor of any abnormal occurrences with patient’s procedures, scheduling, preparation, transport, transfer onto exam table and submits occurrences in Quantros when required. Is proactive to coordinates activities that require effort between nursing, imaging staff, physicians and/or radiologists. Communicates effectively with team members, physicians, and other healthcare providers. Ensures that information is disseminate! d and effectively communicated using business appropriate communication! and following chain of command. Utilizes patient transfer devices for patient transfer form bed to stretcher, stretcher to exam table, etc. for patient and staff safety. Familiar with and properly utilizes protocols for National Patient Safety Goals and upholds those goals. (Patient identification, correct procedure/correct patient, site marking, timeout, etc.) Administers medications in conjunction with imaging procedures (thyrogen, lasix, etc.) Administers moderate sedation to patients in compliance with nursing standards. Utilizes electronic charting with McKesson and is able to utilize electronic to gather medical records information. Demonstrates competence working in a radiation area and MRI areas with safety. Provides and maintains a therapeutic environment for patients and families. Articulates the role of the radiology nurse to the patient, family and health team members. Identifies, facilitates, and evaluates nursing care for patients, utilizing the nursing proce! ss. Coordinates involvement of the patient, family and health team members in patient care including patient/family teaching. Documents relevant patient information. Communicates the plan of care and other pertinent information to/from other health team members. Helps define standards of excellence for patient care; participates in improvement of patient care services in a cost-effective manner. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide direct nursing care with consideration of the aging process, human developmental stages, and cultural patterns. Participates in orientation of new or temporary staff members. Appropriately utilizes nursing resources to facilitate optimal patient care. Participates in daily operational activities necessary for safe patient/staff environment.
Actively participates in departmental formulation of department standards. Identifies own learning needs and goals and develops a plan to meet them. Maintains and develops professiona! l practice through continuing educational programs and appropriate lear! ning experiences. Maintains inventory of supplies and stocks area with appropriate supplies. Participates in documentation of Quality Assurance within interdepartmentally and within the hospital. Performs other duties as assigned or directed to ensure smooth operation of the organization. Education/Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Preferred: AD from an accredited program for nursing education. Previous experience as a Radiologic Technologist and working with IV contrast media and interventional procedures in imaging preferred. Experience in medical Imaging as a Radiologic technologist or other Imaging modality as a registered nurse such as Specials /Cath Lab is preferred. Required: Current knowledge of the nursing role and scope of practice as defined by the State of Louisiana Nurse Practice Act and the Louisiana Board of Nursing. Current knowledge of American Nurses Association (ANA) Code of Ethics. Knowledge of current trends and demonstration of standards of care in assigned ! unit. Successful completion of mandatory requirements including unit proficiencies/competencies. Demonstration of effective problem solving, decision making, interpersonal and teamwork skills. Demonstration of effective verbal and written communication. Demonstration of positive customer service. Graduate of an NLN accredited RN program. Licensure/Certification: Preferred: CCRN. Required: Current licensure to practice professional nursing in the State of Louisiana. Current American Heart Association (AHA) Healthcare Provider CPR (BLS) certification required. ACLS/PALS.
