The Registered Nurse Unit Manager assumes responsibility for the delivery of patient care that promotes safety and wellbeing of all patients in the unit; plans, directs, coordinates, and evaluates the overall clinical nursing practice in accordance with the Nursing Process; assists with administrative activities, including fiscal, material and human resource management; participates in the development and implementation of hospital policies and procedures; maintains open communication with all staff to promote improvement in pe! rformance; and provides leadership and support to encourage th! e optimum development and performance of each staff member.
The Registered Nurse Unit Manager demonstrates actions consistent with Ochsner’s "Expectations†as duties are performed on a daily basis.
Required Qualifications
Education / Certifications / Licensure / Specialized Training
Current LA RN license
Bachelor of Science degree
BLS certification
Experience / Skills
Five years of clinical experience in a hospital environment including supervisory or charge nurse responsibilities for a minimum of three years.
Experience working independently
Good judgment in handling difficult situations
Good organizational and time management skills.
Sound knowledge of nursing practice and exceptional leadership abilities.
Professional responsibility and accountability of practice.
Stress management skills.
Abilities / Other
Ability to move from place to place for meetings on and of! f campus and making rounds in the hospital. Ability to work longer that eight hours per day. Moving about in excess of 80% of the day in order to carry out duties in a fast-paced environment requiring a high level of mental and physical effort. Medium work=exerting 20 to 50 Ibs. of force occasionally, and/or 10-251bs of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 Ibs. of force constantly to move objects: Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for light work. Office environment: Working environment is inside, climate controlled, with limited chemical exposure. Involves the use of the computer, telephone, patient call system. Occasional travel by plane or car to professional meetings, seminars or speaking engagements. Frequent direct patient contact.
